COMMERCIAL PILOT LICENSE (CPL)

The Commercial Pilot License (CPL) is your gateway to becoming a professional helicopter pilot. Whether your dream is to work in tourism, flight instruction, corporate aviation, or aerial operations, earning your CPL is the essential step to get paid for doing what you love.

FAA Requirements (Per FAA Part 61.123)

To qualify for a CPL, you must hold at least a Private Pilot Certificate (PPL), read, write, and speak English fluently, and be at least 18 years old to obtain a CPL .


Flight Experience Requirements (Per FAA Part 61.129)

Total Flight Time Required: 150 Hours

  • 100 Hours in powered aircraft (50 Hours must be in a helicopter)
  • 100 Hours as Pilot-in-Command (PIC) (35 Hours must be in a helicopter, including 10 cross-country hours in a helicopter)


Dual Flight Training (20 Hours with Instructor):

  • 5 Hours of actual or simulated instrument flight (IFR)
  • 2-Hour Daytime Cross-Country Flight (50+ NM straight-line distance)
  • 2-Hour Nighttime Cross-Country Flight (50+ NM straight-line distance)
  • 3 Hours of preparation for the check ride (within two months of test)


Solo Flight or Dual Flight with Instructor (10 Hours):

  • Cross-country flight with three landings, including one segment of at least 50 NM
  • 5 Hours Night Flying in VFR conditions, including 10 takeoffs and 10 landings at an airport traffic pattern 


Examinations:

  • Pass the FAA Written Knowledge Test
  • Pass the FAA Check Ride (Practical Test)


Cost of Training
The total cost of your CPL training depends on your flight hours, progress, and consistency. 

  • Hourly rates for R22 (currently unavailable) and R44 are the same as those listed for the Private Pilot License.
