INSTRUMENT RATING (IFR)

An Instrument Rating (IFR) provides valuable experience in avionics, regulations, and procedures for flying under instrument flight rules. This certification enhances your ability to operate safely in low visibility conditions and improves your understanding of the national airspace system infrastructure. Whether you're aiming for professional advancement or simply increasing your piloting proficiency, an IFR rating is a significant step in your aviation journey.

FAA Requirements (As per Part 61.65)

To obtain an Instrument Rating, pilots must meet the following requirements: 

✔ Hold at least a Private Pilot Certificate (PPL)
✔ Read, speak, and understand English 

Training & Flight Experience Requirements (As per Part 61.65)

📚 Ground & Flight Training

• Receive ground instruction covering aeronautical knowledge topics.
• Complete flight training covering IFR operational areas.

📝 FAA Exams

• Pass the FAA Instrument Knowledge Test.
• Pass the FAA Practical Test (Check Ride).

✈️ Flight Experience

• 50 Hours of Cross-Country as Pilot-in-Command (PIC) (10 hours must be in a helicopter)
• 40 Hours of Actual or Simulated Instrument Time (15 hours must be with an instructor - CFII)

🛫 Required IFR Cross-Country Flight Training Includes:
✅ Filing an instrument flight plan
✅ Flying 100 NM along airways or routes assigned by ATC
✅ Completing three different types of instrument approaches using navigation equipment at three different airports

Cost of Instrument Rating
The total cost of obtaining an Instrument Rating varies based on individual progress, consistency, and ability. The estimate below is based on a student who flies 1-2 times per week, completing training in 40 flight hours and 20 hours of ground school. 

🚁 Training is conducted in the Robinson R44 Raven II with glass cockpit avionics for enhanced situational awareness and IFR proficiency.

📌 Full hour requirement (40 hours) will be in the helicopter, with an instructor on board.
